INTERMOB 2009 and WOOD PROCESSING MACHINERY 2009 FAIRS, organized by TÜYAP every year consistently, has been developing with the sector since 22 years. WOOD PROCESSING MACHINERY and INTERMOB fairs attracted both domestic and foreign attention, while witnessing important activities.
This year in 26 september 2009, the fair was opened by C. Tan?l Küçük, Chairman of ?SO - ?stanbul Chamber of Industry; Osman Kahveci, General Manager of Forestry – Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the directors of Tuyap.
Based on previous inspections and assessments, the Wood Processing Machinery fair has received EUMABOIS support this year. As it will be known, the European Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers is comprised of 13 woodworking machinery manufacturers associations and supports only one fair in every country.
Through much effort over the years, our events have become important agenda items and have brought together the latest technologies with their buyers. Our events received attention across the world and were attended by members of the American Hardwood Export Council ( AHEC ).
The Turkish Furniture Accessories Industrialists Association MAKSDER has supported Intermob to accelerate its growth.
Facts and figures
Consistently growing for 22 years since 1988, Wood Processing Machinery and Intermob Fairs have become the most important business platform for professionals within and outside Turkey while being recognized as the event with the most coverage in Turkey and the Eurasian region.
According to the independent survey statistics, 2009 events have brought together 714 companies and representatives from 65 countries with 32,627 professional visitors, 2,135 of whom were from other countries. A detailed post show report and statistics will be prepared and issued within 15 days.
Great foreign interest
We have worked across our target region to attract high-profile visitors to our events. As a result of our efforts at our Tüyap Sofia, Moscow, Tbilisi, Skopje, Aleppo and Tehran offices and representatives in 28 countries, 2,135 foreign professionals have visited the fairs.
Part of the transportation, accommodation and living expenses of these visitors was paid by Tüyap. These visitors were from Germany, USA, Albania, Austria, Azerbaijan, UAE, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Algeria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Armenia, Morocco, Palestine, Finland, France, Georgia, Croatia, India, Netherlands, Iraq, UK, Iran, Ireland, Spain, Israel, Switzerland, Italy, Montenegro, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, Kyrgyzstan, Korea, Kosovo, Libya, Lithuania, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Hungary, FYRO Macedonia, Egypt, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Sudan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Jordan and Greece.
Model factories were set up in the fair
The fair hosted a different and innovative activity that has never been seen in any other fairs, with the area in WOOD PROCESSING MACHINERY 2009 fair. Attendant companies show the establishment and working phases of a factory by set up model factories to exhibited the latest technology products.
Global media representatives met in these events
In order to promote these events and the respective industries abroad, for the first time a crowded group of editors representing the industrial publications from all over the world (including the members of International Alliance of Furnishing Publications IAFP) have been invited to the fairs by the cooperation of the Tuyap’s official media sponsor EKIN Publishing Group. The total delegation consisted of about 30 people from 24 furniture and furniture supplier magazines from 16 different countries (Germany, Australia, Belgium, UAE, France, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Ukraine and Greece).
In the first day of the fair (26 September at 16.00) an international meeting was held for the first time. In that special meeting where Turkish industry representatives and international media met, detailed information about the volume of these industries, the Turkish market, the scope and the function of Intermob Fair and B2B press was provided.. In the meeting that took about 2 hours, the representatives of non-governmental organizations, industrial and trade associations, exhibitor companies, media members and TUYAP top management were present.
During the meeting held in the library hall of the venue, Mr. Hakan Mirgün the Vice Chairman of TUYAP Executive Committee, Mr. Serdar Yalç?n the Chairman of TUYAP Executive Committee, Mr. Nesip Uzun the owner of Ekin Publishing Group, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kurto?lu, the Department Chairman of Industrial Engineering of Forestry of Istanbul University welcomed all attendees, made informative speeches, shared their opinions and comments with the others.
After some questions and answers about the actual topics, at the end of the meeting Mr. Zeki Yucel, the general coordinator of EKIN Publishing Group announced a ceremony where as a solidarity with his colleagues Mr. Nesip Uzun presented memory plaques for all the members of international media who were present at this international meeting.
In the second day of the trade fair (27 September 2009 at 10.30) the members of International Alliance of Furnishing Publications IAFP realized a meeting at Heybeli Hall of our venue on Saturday, September 27th, 2009.
As known, IAFP is a non-official union that reports on business, economic conditions, marketing & design trends and that provides the solidarity and cooperation between B2B publications. The IAFP that accept only one member from each country, was founded in 1997 and currently consists of 18 members, representing the leading magazines of furniture-producing countries of the world. The members meets several times in a year parallel to the international events.
The Istanbul meeting of IAFP was the second meeting held in 2009 after Guadalajara, Mexico. During this meeting that is directed by the President Pedro Romero (Moblaje) and hosted by EKIN Publishing Group (Mobilya, Furniturk) that is the Turkish member of the alliance. During the meeting, besides the official agenda and the discussions about the actual topics related with the industrial publishing world, each member of the alliance provided also the latest information about the situation of the furniture industry in their country and shared their opinion about the future of the markets.
MODOKO, MASKO & MODESA days and domestic buyers
The managers of furniture companies located at the Modoko, Masko and Modesa visited our fair on the 28th, 29th and 30th of September.
Like in previous years, Anatolian Participation was promoted through the owners and managers of small and medium businesses, the end-users of the products and services exhibited in our events and a total of 5,357 visitors were hosted from Adana, Adapazar?, Afyonkarahisar, Aksaray, Amasya, Ankara, Antalya, Ayd?n, Bal?kesir, Bart?n, Bolu, Burdur, Bursa, Çanakkale, Çorum, Denizli, Düzce, Erzincan, Eski?ehir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Isparta, ?zmir, Kahramanmara?, Karaman, Kastamonu, Kayseri, Konya, Kütahya, Malatya, Manisa, Mersin, Mu?la, Nev?ehir, Ni?de, Osmaniye, Samsun, Tekirda?, Tokat, U?ak, Yalova and Zonguldak. Supporting small and medium businesses has strengthened the industry during times of recession as we experience today.
Sector has hope in 2009
Increasing the export by 30 percent in 2008, the furniture sector exports most of the goods to Germany, Iraq, France, Iran and Greece. Expanding by 10 % in item base, and by 4.5 % in endorsement base on domestic markets, the sector hopes to convalesce after the VAT reduction, despite the 20 percent recession in the first quarter of year 2009 resulting from the major effects of the crisis.
As the edifice of strength, faith, determination, hard work and cooperation, INTERMOB 2009 and WOOD PROCESSING MACHINERY fairs contribute significantly to the development of the industry. Next year, these events will be held between the 16 - 20 October 2010.

The scope of the INTERMOB 2009 Fair included; furniture accessories, laminate, wooden parquetry, mdf, laminated chipboards, log, timber, all kinds of chipboards, wooden doors and windows, door fillings, door surfaces, kitchen cabinet covers, rail, sliding systems, wooden, plastic drawers, side bands, paint, varnish, polish, adhesives, paint spraying apparatus, hardware, abrasive, nail, screw, upholstery, impregnated, sponge, casters, table legs, armchair components, trade publications and trade organizations.
The scope of the WOOD MACHINERY 2009 Fair included; machinery vehicles and equipment for the forestry industry, transport and storage systems for wood machining and processing, sawmill machinery, planning machinery and other machines for processing sawmill and planning mill products, machinery for the wood products industry, joinery machines, machines for furniture manufacture, especially for processing panels and veneers, machinery for the manufacture and finishing of panels and veneers, auxiliary machinery, all kinds of panels, cutting tools, electrical, mechanical hand tools, pneumatic nail, pinning gun, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment and trade publications.
