US Hardwood: Expressions in Furniture Design and Architecture

22 June, American hardwood Export Council 11th Southeast & Greater China Convention was held at Shangri-La Hotel Shenzhen. The event was supported by HongKong furniture Association, Shenzhen Furniture Association, Guangzhou Furniture Association, Dongguan Famous Furniture Club, Taiwan Furniture Industry Council. Over 600 attendance of architectors, interior designers, manufacturers, producers, retailers, government officials, and press from Southeast Asia as Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippine, etc.
The theme for this convention is on deeply understand the application of hardwood in furniture manufacturing and design, and how to make benefit from it. With 4 topics on ‘outstanding design'; ‘utilize the hard wood to add color to interior design'; ‘wood art in the architecture'; ‘the globalization of American current design trend with Asia furniture making'. The speakers were invited from USA, England, Southeast Asia, and mainland China.
‘We keep our close attention on China market development', said Mr. Ted Rossi, Chairman of American Hardwood Export Council, ‘this is our seventh convent held in China, and reflects our long term commitment for the local market. The hardwood from US featured its special grain, quality, color, species and grades, was received a sound reputation in China's interior design and furniture manufacturing'.
As to the practical utilization of American hardwood in China, the administration director of AHEC, Mr. Michael Snow said: 'Along with the fast development of China's economy, the consumption of people make a huge jump, they are eager to get more high quality products. More customers are willing to use American hardwood to decorate their rooms or offices. In recent years, we also witness this fast growing'.
According to the statistics, in the past 10 years, the total export volume of American hardwood to China was increased from US$7 million (1995) to US$500 million (2005). Most of these imported woods are used for the furniture manufacturing to support the demand of local consumption and furniture export. Mr. Chen xi zhen, the representative of AHEC Asia & greater China office said, 'We, AHEC will strive our effort to strengthen our promotion and expand our activities in main cities and new booming cites with around 10 technical and designing seminars per year. '
